Next Walk - 31/10/10

GRAPPENHALL WALK the WALK 2010 will be on SUNDAY 31st OCTOBER starting at 11a.m from the Grappenhall Community Centre on Bellhouse Lane in Grappenhall.

This will be the 6th year of the Grappenhall Walk the Walk and all money raised so far has gone into research to prevent Breast Cancer.

Nearly £15,000 has already been raised and this amount goes a long long way to help the scientists carry on their invaluable work.

Hi my name is Roy and thanks for visiting the 'Grappenhall Walk the Walk' web page … read on and all the information regarding 'The Walk', how it came about and past photos are on show…

How did the Walk start?

No one ever thinks its going to happen to them – but when it does and when it’s all over and you have time to reflect on the past weeks, months and even years you ask yourself "how did you get through it?" Sadly my wife and Martin's mum, Sue, didn't. But did she complain, did she let others feel sorry for her – NO.

When Sue was back and too, to hospital two or three times a week and when complications set in she knocked them back - "this 'thing' is not going to beat me" was her rebuff to all her problems.

Myself and Martin now had a different life to get on with and that's what we’ve done. We’ve talked about Sue a lot and the laughter has still been there when we talk about some of the many fun times we all had. The gap in our lives will never be filled and by raising money we hope we can help other families to not have to go through what we have been through.

All monies raised will be donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer which is the UK’s leading charity committed to fighting Breast Cancer through Research and Education and whose vision is a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

Whatever the weather 'The Walk' goes ahead - we've had heavy rain and warm sunshine (no snow yet tho!). It's a fantastic atmosphere, 'The Walk' is not exhausting – only 5k and the free buffet afterwards is well the effort!

The satisfaction and fulfilment we see on the faces when the walkers return tells me 'The Walk' has been a success and the after walk comments make it all worthwhile.
